National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Incois), Hyderabad, under the
ministry of earth sciences, government of India has issued a fresh high
wind-wave alert for various status in connection with Cyclone Phailin.
Odisha: Forecast valid up
to 1730 hrs on 13-10-2013
It is forecasted that the
wave conditions off Odisha coast will be rough (2.5 - 4.0m) to very rough
(4.0m) and become gradually much higher on 12th October 2013. The wave height
is forecasted to be maximum (nearly 8.5 m) between Chhatrapur (Ganjam District)
and Saharabedi (Jagatsingpur District) during 1400 hrs of 12 October, 2013. The
swell wave heights vary in the range of 3.0 to 7.0m. The current speeds vary
between 100-130 cm/sec.
Under the influence of this
system, rainfall at most places is forecasted with heavy to very heavy falls
with isolated extremely heavy falls (= 25cm) would occur over coastal Odisha
commencing from 11th October 2013 night and continue to 12th night.
Squally winds with speed
reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail along and off Odisha coast
during next 12 hrs. It would increase in intensity thereafter with gale wind
speed reaching 210-220 kmph at the time of landfall.
Storm surge with height of
around 3.0 m above astronomical tide would inundate low lying areas of Ganjam,
Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha during landfall.
Fishermen out at sea along
Odisha coast are advised to return to coast.
Fishermen are advised not
to venture into sea during the next 48 hours.
Andhra Pradesh: Forecast
valid up to 1730 hrs on 13-10-2013
It is forecasted that the
wave conditions in the sea off north Andhra Pradesh will be rough (2.5 m to 4.0
m) to very rough ( 4.0 m) and will become gradually much higher on 12th October
2013. The wave height is forecasted to be maximum nearly 7.0 m between Baruva
(Srikakulam District) and Ichchapuram (Srikakulam District) during 1130 hrs of
12 October, 2013. The swell wave heights vary in the range of 3.0 to 6.0m. The
current speeds vary between 100-130 cm/sec.
Rainfall at most places
with isolated heavy to very heavy falls would also occur over north coastal
Andhra Pradesh commencing from 11th Oct. night.

Tamil Nadu: High wind waves
in the range of 2.5 - 4 meters are predicted up to 17:30 hrs on 12-10-2013
along the Kolacahl to Kilakarai of southern Tamil Nadu.
West Bengal: Forecast valid
up to 1730 hrs on 13-10-2013
It is forecasted that the
wave conditions will be rough (2.5 m - 4.0m) to very rough ( 4.0 m) off West
Bengal coast during the above period. The wave height is forecast to be maximum
(nearly 5.5 m) between Digha (East Midnapore District) and Fraserganj (South 24
Parganas District) during 0530 hrs of 12 October, 2013. The swell wave heights
vary in the range of 3.0 to 5.0m. The current speeds vary between 100 and 130
cm/sec.
Isolated heavy to very
heavy rainfall would occur over coastal areas of West Bengal commencing from
12th Oct. night.
Fishermen out at sea along
West Bengal coast are advised to return to coast. Fishermen are advised not to
venture into sea during the next 48 hours.
